SYMBOLIC PAINTINGS BY FLORENCE LAURENT
THE WORKS, REFLECTION OF AN ARTIST'S LIFE
A painting is a piece of life, a trace of our relationship to nature. A universal language without words delivered to the eyes of all. Take the time to let yourself be carried away by your imagination ...
FROM THE FIGURATIVE TO THE ABSTRACT
FLO was trained in painting open-air landscapes, still lifes, and drawing live models. It is therefore a realistic figurative painting that she first explored. Years after years, she turned to an increasingly personal interpretation of reality.
Today, her painting can be qualified as semi-abstract, between abstraction and figuration. Coming from her imagination, and with an instinctive gesture, she orients her paintings according to their evocative power and according to the images that appear to her.
Painting is for FLO a connection to the moment and to one's inner being. A feeling of spiritual elevation close to that felt in front of the immensity and the beauty of a landscape. These works quite naturally evoke abstract landscapes.
A SYMBOLIC PAINTING
Symbols such as the spiral and the bird are unconsciously present in her recent paintings. The spiral symbolizes a circular movement that it extends to infinity, and which develops from a point of origin. Rotation and ascension, revolution and elevation, these are the movements that seem to animate the Universe. This form is found in the natural form of a galaxy, origin of the universe, snail shells, rose petals, ferns, vines ... etc. This symbol has been used as early as the Neolithic period as an image engraved on pottery. Many cultures use this symbol: the Celts, Mayans, Etruscans, China Yin and Yang, triskelion ... The spiral is a symbol of the universal rhythm, movement, energy and mystery of the Universe ...
The bird symbolizes freedom, it can move in all directions of space, freeing itself from gravity. This canvas was produced when our freedom is suddenly limited by the risk of contagion of the virus. Painting and looking at a painting can help us free our mind, if not our body.
